Homeless International has limited financial or default risk from lending to high risk groups. The majority of its involvement is via grants, and the Guarantee Fund has been a remarkable success in terms of default. The group lending and repayment approach (similar to micro-finance and insurance risk spreading), and the local partner strengthening work, reduces the risks. The greater risks of the wider expansion of construction work are taken on by the local authorities and funders after seeing the sustainable demonstration models.
