Outlook

Fundraising had been a low priority in recent years. Since mid-2007, it has been re-emphasised and has partially replaced the funding commitments that are ending in March 2009. There are funding applications still pending. The charity has a handful of loyal individual supporters and some of the funding gap has been filled by trusts and foundations. Some projects are being put largely on hold until funds allow them to be resumed.

African Initiatives is looking for £30,000/year to continue the Maasai women’s work. £34,000/year will develop the Tanzanian girls’ education project from the pilot stage. A second girls’ education project for a similar amount could also be developed. In Ghana, the agrochemical programme is pending funds of £10-12,000 to be able to disseminate the already mapped misuse information.
