Outlook

Motivation’s fundraising is carried out by a new, small & focussed team with input from programme staff. Local fundraisers are now active in Africa and Asia. The strategy is to increasingly raise funds locally. Motivation operates an indirect cost recovery mechanism to cover some costs which made up 9% of income in 2007. The income was generated through the sale of Worldmade wheelchairs to other international NGOs. The charity’s targeting of corporations has brought in several high profile supporters, such as Marks & Spencer, B&Q, and British Airways. It will continue to target institutions, trusts and individuals. Skype chose to support Motivation in 2008 to emphasise mobility for Skype users and several high profile individuals support the charity.

Motivation is looking for £350,000 for the Worldmade programme, to develop the range of products and training that can be offered. Several international organisations have asked Motivation to customise training, including the International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC). The funding would allow Motivation to complete the range of designs for Worldmade products (such as mass-produced pressure-relieving mattresses and seat cushions), set up wheelchair services and broaden strategic collaborations with international organisations.
