Development Rating launches theme research on nutrition deficiency

Micronutrient deficiency is a critical problem in the developing world. While a lack of calories is no longer a crucial problem in the least developed countries, persistent poor food nutrient content undermines:

  • the proper mental and physical development of unborn babies, children and adolescents;
  • the body's ability to fight off infections;
  • the health and survival prospects of pregnant women;
  • the prevention of disabling conditions; and,
  • the overall health, energy levels and productivity of the entire affected population.

Through illnesses, deaths, disabilities and poor development, micronutrient deficiency can compound the cycle of poverty that played a role in the deficiency in the first place. In this theme research, Development Ratings highlights the issue, its implications and how to most effectively fight it.
