Viewpoint: Africa is an attractive investment destination

Development Ratings believes in long term partnerships both for charitable giving and investment decisions. The current economic downturn will inevitably have negative repercussions on the economic growth of most African nations. However, there is almost no leverage in the African domestic economies and there are a number of reasons for investors to continue to see Africa as an interesting destination for long term investment decisions.

Development Ratings recommends that investors put risk capital into Africa alongside their donations to the charities that we recommends. Although foreign investment remains small, there are a number of new funds devoted to investing in Africa from the likes of New Star Asset Management, Charlemagne Capital, Zephyr, T Rowe Price, Renaissance Capital and Investec. Development Ratings does not provide investment advice, but notes that these funds are being raised on the back of renewed interest in the second most populous continent on earth.

Development Ratings believes that sustained investment in Africa has the potential to assist economies to grow. We advise investors to support effective charities alongside their high-return investments to ensure that the investment environment continues to improve.
