Background research

Our rating reports provide a summary overview of the key activities, output, outcomes and key risks of our the charities that satisfy our criteria.
The reports do not provide an assessment of the development impact of each and every project that a particular organisation is engaged in, but provide a big-picture assessment of the charity’s model for effecting change.
Development Ratings recognises that helping people is a complex process and our impact analysis is not reduced to one single quantitative factor, but involves a number of interlinked qualitative and quantitative parameters which can be interpreted in many ways and which have a high degree of uncertainty. Our ratings should therefore be treated as one assessment of impact among others which may yield different results.
In addition to our individual charity ratings, we have published the following theme and thought-pieces.
Methodology
Charity financial ratio analysis and guidelines
