The 2007 nationality split of the 449 scholars by number and percentage of the total is shown below. Thirty five of the Thai scholars and 36 of the Nepalese are partly supported by their respective alumni foundations.
Nepalese 153 (34%)
Malawians 116 (26%)
Thai 64 (14%)
Indians 49 (11%)
Zambians 35 (8%)
Tibetans (in exile)32 (7%)
The total cost per beneficiary of £900 includes the infrastructure costs which amounted to £134,000 in 2007. The infrastructure spending will have a multi-year benefit on students, however. The cost of school fees is the total cost of education, accommodation, staff and administration.
POCT keeps contact with its alumni (Sir Richard and Lady Butler know most of them personally), and follows their progress in terms of work, earnings, families, and progress towards the establishment of foundations.
