Book Aid International
Output

In 2008, excluding the valuation of the books, Development Ratings estimates the total economic cost to Book Aid International of sending each book (including administration and fundraising) was £2.74 (versus £2.14 quoted by the charity in its marketing).

Book Aid International sends a high proportion of books for children & teenagers as a direct effort to develop literacy through the value of books not on the school curriculum. Educational and vocational books are the main focus. Medical books are used by multiple users. Anecdotal evidence suggests they can have a significant impact on the spreading of health information. Libraries’ reporting systems allow Book Aid International to monitor book recipients and usage. This enables BAI to direct book support where it is needed most, and adjust supply programmes to ensure the most important and relevant types of information are available to readers. Completion of book use monitoring forms by partners is a requirement for continuing the partnerships.

Number of books sent = 500,000
