There are constant natural events hitting Southern Madagascar and affecting food availability. The efforts to alleviate the effect of droughts and cyclone damage may be considered as a never-ending up hill struggle by donors. Economic growth has improved, however, and progress is being seen overall.
There is the risk that some of the broadcast solutions, such as vaccinating cows or purchasing condoms, may still be out of the financial reach of some listeners until income levels improve.
The opening of the titanium mine has brought 25% localised inflation to the area. 12% local Trust staff wage increases took effect in early 2007. Villagers are directly affected, however.
Electricity cuts and infrastructure issues can interrupt radio broadcasting. If so, broadcasts are rescheduled. Power backup batteries have been purchased by the Trust for some radio stations.
