The Trust’s environmental focus affects its fundraising policy. The Trust will not accept donations from individuals or organisations that have profited from environmentally damaging activities such as the extractives industry. It extends the ethical filter to arms-related, military and chemical industries and some other areas.
EC DMP funding is due to end in May 2009, but the sorghum component funding will continue to 2010. The establishment of the local Malagasy NGO over the second half of 2008 will help the Trust source funds from a wide range of donors. It will also help with the development of local income generation. The Trust mainly taps environmental sources for funds. Fundraising has taken a back seat in financial year 2008 but will be re-emphasised in 2009. The main financial need of the Trust currently is to raise unrestricted funds to help support management’s national and international strategic policy-making, project management and fundraising.
