Target Tubercolosis
Outlook

The hiring of an agency to target individual donors in 2006 proved expensive. The charity is now aiming to develop this internally through direct mail campaigns to extend the database of donors. World TB Day 2008 was marked by a local exhibition that transferred to the Houses of Parliament in April. A BBC Radio 4 Appeal was broadcast in April. The medical profession is also targeted to raise awareness and as potential donors.

The subject of TB in general is challenging to raise funds for, as many people are not aware of its increase and developmental cost. An interesting new diagnostic tool is being piloted in Uganda to combat the issue of HIV patients giving false negative sputum readings. Successfully trialled in Peru, the pilot will target a higher HIV prevalence population. £46,000 is being sought for the 18 month pilot. Surprisingly, Target TB tends to find it difficult to interest donors in the essential services of its Indian TB hospital which costs £22,000/year. £4,000 would send two staff members to attend training at the International Union against TB and Lung Disease. The charity would like to host a meeting of its partners in March 2009 along with invited donors, researchers and medical professionals. This would cost £10,000 although the donation of a host venue would reduce this cost.
