• Motivation Charitable Trust provides mobility products, services, employment assistance, training and rights advocacy for disabled people in developing countries.
• Motivation designs and provides low-cost mobility aids, such as wheelchairs. The cost of making and delivering each wheelchair is around $150.
• Motivation trains local partners to provide assessment, fitting and training for wheelchair users. Poor fit can lead to fatal secondary complications such as pressure sores. Rugged three wheeled chairs are designed for rural terrain.
• The employment opportunities work includes vocational training programmes, employment fairs, income generating schemes and disability-adapted machinery.
• The charity works wherever there is need, including Europe and Latin America, but the main focus is on Africa and Asia, with nearly 60% of countries being LDCs.
• Motivation helps local organisations to meet the needs of disabled people for the long term, through training and skills development. Motivation also works to promote the rights of disabled people in their communities and countries.
• Over 60,000 people have been helped to increase their mobility and participate in society as equal citizens since 1991.
• Currently, over 28,000 people a year are directly benefitted.
