• ShelterBox Trust provides the essential items for survival and recovery after the effects of a disaster or major conflict. The Trust delivers boxes that often contain a 10-man tent, blankets, water purification systems, mosquito nets, a basic toolkit, a multi-fuel stove and cookware.
• Boxes are shipped within 2-3 days of the disaster. The contents are designed to last at least 6 months, allowing time to rebuild infrastructure and livelihoods.
• The Trust takes advantage of the massive network of 32,000 Rotary Clubs to alert it to a disaster and the local need, and to fundraise amongst its members.
• The Trust has sent 42,317 boxes abroad to date to attend to 76 disasters. As some tents are re-used and recycled and some boxes contain 2 tents each, an estimated 600,000 people have been helped on the road to recovery.
• In addition to warding off water-borne diseases, the Trust helps communities to literally rebuild with the toolkits provided. Working with other organisations, fishing nets or trade tool kits can be provided, helping to re-develop the local economy.
• The Trust also provides school boxes filled with supplies for a teacher and 50 children to continue with their schooling. This prevents interrupted education.
• The cost of providing life-saving interventions and preventing worsening conditions and the extension of the recovery period is less than £40/person.
