VETAID is highly reliant on institutional funds. To change this, the new 2.5-man fundraising team is targeting trusts, mainly concentrating in Scotland to be cost-effective. However, trusts, reliant on investment income for their charitable donations, are feeling the effects of the current financial crisis, potentially affecting VETAID’s income streams. The major EU grant funding for the Mozambique operations is coming to an end in late 2008.
VETAID wants to trial pilot projects to test the most effective methods for new agricultural techniques. In addition, the £12,000 repair of a borehole in Somaliland would directly benefit the 15,000 people and 40,000 animals that depend on it. Currently, the funds are not available for either of these wish list items. There is also a need for core funding for managing the country projects from the UK.
