Refugees United can see the traffic generated in the service but will not know directly whether searches are successful. Only a few hundred searchers have registered so far. It is expected that the more users of the system there are, the greater the likelihood of finding a successful match of relatives or friends. By the end of 2009, RU plans to launch a testimonials page for families in successful communications. While there is a drawback in terms of results data of not intervening in the information exchange, this is actually considered to be a benefit that will encourage refugees and others to safely use the system without fear of any form of retaliation by people from their country of origin.
We have made our own assumptions, above, about the number of successful reunifications. This is only a guess but indicates the approximate start-up cost of helping family members get in touch with each other.
