Improving the possibility of locating relatives: This will reduce the stress of separation and help families integrate. The larger the number of users, the more likely a successful contact will be made.
NGO capacity building/cost reduction: Linking NGOs with the RU system will help them serve their target beneficiaries better. Physical relocation will be quicker and easier, cutting costs.
Influencing policy development: Spreading the word about the plight of refugees in the media and through NGOs will bring the topic to attention. This could influence policies towards refugees/ migrants and improve the overall refugee situation and potentially the underlying political contributions to it.
Increasing development impact: Knowing the location of family members could increase the remittances that more settled earners can send to the more struggling members, contributing to local development. Family members eventually returning home may take with them newly learnt skills that could improve the local skills-base. Reuniting families ultimately reduces the humanitarian and financial costs of refugee support, freeing funds for other development work. Children in refugee camps could be reunited with family and be more likely to have their educational needs met.
