There are major security risks for operations and management. All staff follow security guidelines and are insured. A number of staff have undergone security risk training. Satellite phones are kept on 24 hours/day, and security guards are provided for staff working in potentially dangerous situations.
There are management risks due to the time/office closing hours differences between Somalia/Kenya and the UK. Staff cope by working weekends & communicating via e-mail, Skype, & satellite phones.
In recent years, exchange rate and currency effects have tended to balance out given the range of grants in Euros and sterling and the costs in dollars, but this remains a risk.
